Propulsion System
About Propulsion System
The propulsion system can be broadly divided into “shaft system equipment” and the “propeller.” The shaft system equipment consists of components such as an intermediate shaft, intermediate bearing, propeller shaft, and stern tube bearing. The power (rotational force) from the main engine is transmitted to the propeller, and the thrust generated by the propeller is transmitted to the hull to propel the vessel, so it is the most important system for propulsion.
The propeller is a device to convert the power (rotational force) generated by the main engine into thrust. It is composed of multiple blades (normally four to five) and a “boss” that supports the blades while also transmitting the power (rotational force) from the propeller shaft. Propellers can either be Fixed Pitch Propellers (FPP) or Controllable Pitch Propellers (CPP).
Advantages
As an all-embracing manufacturer of vessel propulsion systems, our company performs overall design from main engines to all propulsion system equipment, so we can offer propulsion systems that are ideally matched to main engines as well as environmentally-friendly and economical.
