Controllable Pitch Propellers

As their name indicates, fixed pitch propellers have a pitch (theoretical distance of advancement for one revolution of the propeller, according to the blade twist angle) that is constant, and are designed at a point that will provide the highest efficiency. On the other hand, the pitch of controllable pitch propellers can be increased or decreased for the most efficient pitch in various situations such as high speed or low speed, or shallow draft or deep draft.

While keeping the revolution speed of the main engine constant, the vessel speed can be freely increased or decreased over a wide range of forward or backward movement.
